JD Cary writes crime fiction rooted in Los Angeles, a city she knows as both beautiful and unforgiving. Its contradictions—the glamour and grit, wealth and desperation, sunlight and shadow—provide the natural landscape for her work.

Cary’s first novel, Testarossa, was originally published in 2010. The novel was later acquired and republished by Crooked Lane Books under the title A Deadly Legacy. In 2019, Cary reclaimed the book’s original title, re-edited it, and independently released Testarossa as the first novel in the John Testarossa series.

A lifelong Los Angeles resident, Cary continues to write about the city, the people who inhabit it, and the darker things that can exist beneath all that California sunshine.
